Meet your Team
Kate Compton barr
Loser In Charge of Losing
Kate is the OG Loser. In 2024, she ran the first Can't Win Campaign for NC Senate District 37. When she's not losing, she's a behavioral scientist studying persuasive communication strategies.
Built to lose:
• Voted for Al Gore
• Cheered for the Tarheels in the Matt Doherty era
• Lost the 3rd grade spelling bee on the word "merriment" despite wearing every good luck charm she could find and throwing salt over her shoulder.
Why She Keeps Fighting:
Because democracy demands it. Voters should be the center of a democracy but we're being pushed aside and replaced by power and money. F*ck that, we're fighting back.
Caitlin barnes
The One Who Won Once
Caitlin stands out on the team because she actually won something one time. She helped House Rep Beth Helfrich break the Republican supermajority.
As a born winner, Caitlin had to go through rigorous loser training before joining this team. But never fear, she's fully embraced the loser lifestyle and is ready to suffer like the rest of us.
Built to lose:
Caitlin is not actually built to lose. This is a growth edge for her and she has a performance dis-improvement plan.
Why She Keeps Fighting:
Because she believes Democratic messaging sucks and knows we can do better. She also believes in democracy, fair play, and justice. She's ready to flip the script and make our maps work for US.
Beth kendall
Chief Pain Officer
As Democratic Party Chair in deep red Iredell County, Beth is more than familiar with
1) losing and
2) convincing people to endure the pain of losing again and again
She also runs marathons, so she knows a thing or two about persevering through discomfort.
Built to lose:
* Led door-knocking on 15,000 doors, many of which were Republican.
* Ran (and lost) for county commissioner in 2018.
* Loves losing so much she keeps encouraging people to do it (for democracy!).
Why She Keeps Fighting:
Because she believes in our communities, and is totally f*ing done with doing the same old things and getting the same old results.
Democracy is worth fighting for.
tara arbitter
Champion of lost causes
Tara loves losers. She loves their passion, commitment, and utter rejection of common sense.
Built to lose:
• Crowned “Poppy Queen” in kindergarten, but only because Grandma stuffed the ballot box with cash. A rigged win was probably her destiny.
• Endured five excruciating hours of Monopoly only to lose to an 8-year-old with no mercy.
• If losing keys, homework, and elections were an Olympic sport, she'd take home the gold.
Built to lose, born to try again!
Why She Keeps Fighting:
Because fair maps and democracy deserve someone stubborn enough to keep showing up—especially when the odds are stacked against us. Losing might be her specialty, but fighting for a better future is her passion.
